The new law states that it’s actually illegal to look at your phone at all when crossing the street.The “distracted pedestrian” law has been implemented to reduce accidents. It’s estimated that 1,000 pedestrians are injured from phone-related distractions in the U.S. each year.The law also prohibits playing video games, using laptops, or even looking at pagers (if anyone still uses them).Honolulu is the first major U.S. city to pass such a law. Infractions start at $15, but can run up to $99 for repeat offenders.But feel free to walk and talk. Just keep it close to your ear.
