Texas woman slips out of cuffs, leads police on crazy car chase

LUFKIN, TEXAS — A Texas woman led officers on a high-speed chase on Saturday after she slipped out of her handcuffs and tore off in a police SUV.
Lufkin police were responding to a 911 call about a suspected shoplifter on Saturday afternoon, ABC News reported.
Cops chased down the suspect, 33 year-old Toscha Sponsler. They handcuffed her and placed her in the back of the police vehicle.
While the cops went through her bag outside, Sponsler took off her seat belt, and slipped off her cuffs. She then climbed through the window partition into the driver's seat.
Sponsler then sped off and led officers on a dangerous 23-minute car chase with speeds reaching up to 100 mph.
Police said throughout the chase they could see the woman reaching for the mechanically locked shotgun in the SUV.
The pursuit finally ended after a state trooper gave Sponsler a love tap to send her patrol vehicle spinning.
Sponsler was taken to Angelina County Jail where she's being held on an $18,000 bond, authorities said.
The Lufkin Police Department posted an edited video of several dashcam and bodycam videos of the incident to Facebook.
Sponsler faces charges of escape causing serious bodily injury/threat of a deadly weapon, aggravated assault against a public servant, possession of a controlled substance, evading arrest with a vehicle with a previous conviction and unauthorized use of a vehicle.
