1979 Gottlieb INCREDIBLE HULK pinball machine

In ion here today we have the 1979 Incredible Hulk pinball machine by Gottlieb. \r

This is the last of the System 1 machines before Gottlieb began using their System 80 hardware. \r

The Hulk is a fairly sparce layout with only a couple of interesting shots/features. The spinner shot on the left is fairly satisfying, but with the light-weight plastic Gottlieb spinners, theres only so many revolutions you can get out of it. I understand that Gottlieb spinners are intended to be used differently (theyre only supposed to turn three or four times on a solid hit) than Bally/Stern/Williams spinners, and I suppose with that in mind, theyre okay. \r

The rules of this game are pretty neat.. complete the A-B-C sequence to light the special, but the A & B are the two kicker-where-there-should-be-slingshot thingies, so you cant ually shoot for them directly. And the C is the entire drop bank, which is a challenge to complete. \r

Completing the 1-2-3 sequence lights the lane at the middle of the right side for the extra ball. \r

An interesting feature of the 2nd generation system 1 sound board is that there are ually two entirely different sets of sounds, which can be changed via a switch on the board. The thing is, though, that the alternative sounds (not the sounds heard during this video) are so unbelievably bad that nobody would ever intentionally choose them over the normal sounds heard in this video. Another cool feature is the attr mode sound that plays every 6 minutes when the game is idle. It scared the crap out of me several times while I was working on this machine. \r

This game was designed by Ed Krynski with artwork by Gordon Morrison. Its a very cool looking game, even if its not a great player.
