Macron threatens to launch BREAKAWAY EU group warning France and Germany will be DECISIVE
EMMANUEL Macron today warned Europe was "more fragile than ever" as he called for deeper integration including a common defence force and shared eurozone budget. The President told the audience: "The only path that assures our future is the rebuilding of a Europe that is sovereign, united and democratic."He claimed the continent was "more fragile than ever" due to the growth of nationalism and other forces.The 39-year-old said: "A more fragile Europe is today exposed to waves of globalisation."The dangers, the ideas, of the past are growing once more,"""The only path that assures our future is the rebuilding of a Europe that is sovereign, united and democratic."And in what appeared to be a criticism of Britain, he warned against nations who are "hunkering down in their own countries" rather than embracing a reformed EU. Speaking on defence, he said: "At the beginning of the next decade, Europe must have a joint intervention force, a common defence budget and a joint doctrine for action."And he set out a vision of a common European civilian force "to fight droughts or fires or earthquakes together".Tackling immigration, he said: “I want a for us to have an effective European border police that everywhere has strict border control and makes sure anyone who can’t stay here is sent to their countries."It is only with Europe that we can efficiently protect our borders and welcome those who need protection in a dignified manner, and at the same time send back those who are not eligible for asylum."He says Brussles must create a European asylum office, which accelerates and harmonises our procedures.The French leader says he wants "the gradual creation of a European border police" to assure the better protection of Europe's borders.Mr Macron had arrived late for his big speech after crowds of demonstrators gathered outside the venue to protest against his controversial labour reforms.
