Ive been playing around with LuxRender and OpenCL rendering for a while now, but my videos didnt look too great (not like Phymecs, which inspired this Lux approach) and so I never pursued it further. I thought it might be something to do with him using SmallLuxGPU / SLG which has now been replaced. \r
\r
But then I realised that I was using the biased rendering mode which, though incredibly fast at rendering, doesnt give the same realistic lighting I was looking for. As soon as I had a go with the full Path OpenCL rendering engine and saw how nice and realistic it made my scenes I knew I had to make a full compilation out of it, so here it is. \r
\r
As usual, it was made with Blender but rendered in LuxRender which you can see the download link for below. I used the experimental API, which allows viewport realtime rendering and experimental pure OpenCL rendering, which was incredibly fast. Thats why I was able to render this in 4K - each frame took only around a minute (there is one scene that took much longer than the others and that is because I rendered to 4 times as many samples). \r
\r
Check out my latest blog post (link below) for how I reduced noise after rendering, and check earlier for a tower destruction tutorial!\r
\r
For my next video (final clip) Ive replicated Phymecs popular tower construction, and played around with different angles, lighting and materials. Itll also be in UHD 4K for anyone else who, like me, wishes Phymec hadnt rendered it in 480p :(\r
