Early comic books were influenced by Pulps, Newspaper Strips, and Golden Age Movies. Even Modern Comic books derive much of their stories and themes from Pulp Fiction, Dime Novels and Penny Dreadfuls works that started as early as 1886 through the 1930s. This includes Nick Carter, Spring Heeled Jack, John Carter, Tarzan, Edgar Rice Burroughs, The Shadow, Doc Savage, G8, Suicide Squad, Buck (Anthony) Rogers, Batman, Two-Face, Superman, Enemy Ace, Green Lantern, Green Lantern corp, Grey Lensmen, and so on.
