Secret Service issues 'ATM jackpotting' warning to banks

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Secret Service this week issued an alert, warning banks about an ATM exploit known called "jackpotting."
According to online security blogger and journalist Brian Krebs, the Secret Service has been warning banks that attacks are taking place in the USA. Krebs, citing the Secret Service alert, reports that thieves use an endoscope attached to a phone to find an internal part of the ATM that'll connect with their laptop.
After that, the cash machine appears as Out of Service and will be in control of the thieves, according to the Secret Service alert reported by Krebs. They can order the ATM to dispense currency to a collector, or "money mule", at a rate of 40 bills per 23 seconds.
The Secret Service alert warms the exploit targets ATMs inside pharmacies and big box retailers as well as drive-thru ATMs, according to Krebs.
