Pros and cons of the Canon 28-300L IS lens

The Canon 28mm - 300mmL IS lens is the most underrated L series lens in Canon's line up and I struggle to see why.
I have owned this lens for several years now and it is a lens I use a lot, and I find it particularly useful for travel photography and those occasions when I want to take, or can only take, a single lens.
