Meet The US Army's New Pistols: M17/M18 Modular Handgun System

Video of Soldiers unpack, inspect and test fire the new Modular Handgun System. In an effort to improve Soldier and unit lethality, the Army fielded the new Modular Handgun System to the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) in Dec, 2017. These Soldiers are among the first to fire the new handguns. The M17 replaces the M9 pistol, the standard Army sidearm since 1986. The M18 is a compact version of the M17. The division received more than 2,000 M17s and M18s. The new pistols are manufactured by Sig Sauer. The Army will issue the new pistols to all Army units over the next decade.
