Recipe FAQ & Ingredient Substitutions\r
\r
1) What if I dont have Japanese curry roux?\r
Then you can easily make a normal curry using your favourite recipe! Thai curries or indian curries will work just as well. If you dont like curry then you can also make a stew or goulash. \r
\r
2) What if I dont have panko breadcrumbs?\r
Panko is just a crunchier version of normal breadcrumbs, so you can use any boxed breadcrumbs found in the supermarket. (Semmelbrösel crumbs are widely available in Germany/Austria cause people love their schnitzel here XD). You can also bash up cornflakes inside a baggie and use those instead!\r
\r
3) What if I dont want to deep fry?\r
Of course, the katsu part of the curry is optional so feel free to leave it out. If you want a meatier curry, you can simply cook some chicken pieces and add those to the curry sauce with the vegetables. \r
\r
4) What if I dont have nori?\r
Since this recipe only uses a tiny piece of nori, it may not be worth buying a whole pack if you dont use it for other things like sushi or onigiri. You can create the face using any dark sauce thickened with some flour. You can even use melted dark chocolate! You wont be able to taste it when mixed with curry. \r
\r
5) What if I dont have sushi rice?\r
Sushi rice is recommended because the stickiness makes it easy to create shapes like the alpaca body. Jasmine rice (aka the one that all Chinese people have at home) should also be ok. Basmati, wild rice or any wholegrain rice will not work. \r
