Woman Throws 'Ashes' at Los Angeles Police Chief Following Niece's Death

Two women were detained by police after one of them threw what was reported to be ashes at LAPD Chief Charlie Beck during a meeting at police headquarters on Tuesday, May 8.The incident happened during a Los Angeles Police Commission meeting. Footage shows a woman shouting at officials before throwing a substance at Beck. The woman was identified in local reports as Sheila Hines-Brim, an aunt of Wakiesha Wilson, who died while in LAPD custody in 2016. In the footage, she can be heard shouting, “That’s Wakiesha. She’s going to stay with you.’”The LAPD said that a “substance” was thrown at Beck but did not confirm what it was. Dave Lopez, a local CBS reporter, said sources told him the substance was the ashes of Wakiesha Wilson.The other woman who was detained was identified in local reports as Melina Abdullah, a leader of Black Lives Matter in Los Angeles.
