8. St. Augustine Monster\r
\r
The St. Augustine Monster that washed up on the shores of Florida is one of the earliest reported and photographed cases of an unknown creature. Considering it happened in 1896 people assumed that this was a giant octopus that came crawling from the depths of the Atlantic Ocean. In 1995, scientists reopened the case and discovered that the carcass was ually a large mass of collagenous whale blubber. Why do scientists have to go and ruin all cryptozoology for us ? \r

7. The Four Mile Globster \r
\r
Similar to number 8, The Four Mile Globster is an unidentified carcass that was found on a Tasmanian beach. Measuring over 15 feet long and 6 feet wide, and with an estimated weight of 4 tons, this bugger is considered BIG. The body contained strands of white hair, some bones, and fleshy lobes along its sides. \r

6. The Chilean Blob \r
\r
If you think the Tasmanian globster was big, prepare to be amazed. This large mass of tissue weighs over 14 tons and it is almost 40 feet across. When it was discovered in 2003, no one could determine what species it was, so again, people decided that it is a very, very giant octopus. History tends to repeat itself, and in new, after extensive DNA testing the blob was determined to be the remains of a sperm whale. \r

5. South Carolina Sturgeon \r
\r
People in South Carolina were freaked out when this bizarre fish was found in their front yards ! \r
After a little bit of panic and mystery, a veterinarian from the South Carolina Aquarium determined that the fish was a Sturgeon. Even though they are rare, Sturgeons can grow to be 800 pounds and over 15 feet long ! These fish have been around for more than a 100 million years and have an individual life span of 60 odd years. \r

4. Seventeen Foot Oarfish \r
\r
Oarfish are normally found at a depth of between 1000 and 3000 feet. They are as elusive, as they are creepy and scientists have not spent much time learning about them. These species definitely had a lot to do with the crazy tales told by old fishermen. In this picture, the group that dug up the fish from the sand took a victorious photo, why they all decided it would be a good idea to touch a dead, decomposing fish, is beyond me. \r

3. Beached Whales.\r
\r
Even though whales are well known and studied nowadays, it wasnt always like this. You can only imagine what went through peoples minds when they saw a 50 foot long creature that weighed 40 to 50 tons washed up on the beach. \r
\r
Stranger still, is the mass stranding of some whale species like the one recorded in 1902 near Cape Cod. Scientists have theories as to why this happens, but there has been nothing conclusive in their research. \r

2. The Moscow Monster\r
\r
This crazy looking carcass was spotted near Sakhalin, Russia around 2006. Only a few pictures were snapped before the Russian Special Services hauled it away, never to be seen again. From the pictures it looks to be a reptilian creature with lots of fur and a weird bone structure. There is not much information about this sighting and even theories are scarce. To me, it resembles a giant seahorse or maybe a water dragon… \r

1. The Siberian Monster \r
\r
Russia has topped the charts of this list with the discovery of the Siberian Monster. Described as a “furry dolphin”, it would be easy to toss this in the “hoax” box but there is more to the story than meets the eye. Scientists have not yet determined the species of the monster and many believe it to be a prehistoric mutant of sorts. Twice the size of a regular dolphin, the carcass was estimated to weigh around 600 pounds. It was also covered in fur and as seen in this photo, it features a dominant beak.
