Amazon Buys Online Pharmacy PillPack

Amazon Buys Online Pharmacy PillPack Amazon has agreed to buy the pharmacy startup in a move to expand into health care. PillPack, which sells pre-sorted packets of prescription drugs, has mail-order pharmacy licenses in all 50 U.S. states. It uses automated software to check when a refill is due, determine co-pays and confirm insurance. Amazon made its first venture into the health industry in 1999, when it purchased a stake in Drugstore.com. Although that merger was unsuccessful, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has maintained an interest in health care. Terms of the PillPack deal haven't yet been released publicly. The transaction is expected to be completed in the second half of 2018.
