Leicester’s fighting trio back their city for champions

The hometown trio for Saturday’s biggest boxing show in Leicester for nearly 25 years believe this is just the start for the city’s reintroduction to the sport.

CJ Challenger, Jahmaine Smyle and Lyon Woodstock are beyond excited to be part of this weekend’s show at the Leicester Arena.

Four title fights, plus a final eliminator for world honours, will take place in front of a captivated audience along with BT Sport and BoxNation viewers.

It’s the biggest thing to happen boxing-wise in Leicester since September 1993, when Chris Pyatt defended the WBO world middleweight title at the now-demolished Granby Halls.

Smyle defends his English super middleweight title against the unbeaten Daryll Williams over 10 rounds, with his manager Clifton Mitchell having choice words for the challenger.

Woodstock goes for the vacant Midlands super featherweight crown against the former champion Paul Holt, also set for 10.

Courtney Challenger Jnr - hence the CJ - looks to make it a hat-trick of victories since turning pro in a four-round super welterweight contest against Danny Little.

The three spoke about their pride in the Leicester connection to Seconds Out reporter Craig Birch, who is also from the city!
