The renewed Kia Sportage of 2018 presents a series of improvements that consolidate it as the most emblematic SUV of the brand and the best-selling model in Europe. The new Sportage combines an updated exterior and interior design with new safety and connectivity technologies, as well as new propulsion systems that meet future emissions regulations. The update also affects the GT Line versions.

The advanced EcoDynamics + propulsion system of the Sportage, a 48V light hybrid diesel, is the first to be launched within the brand's global electrification strategy. Kia is the first manufacturer that offers, within its range, hybrid vehicles, plug-in hybrids, electric with battery and light hybrid 48V technology. Until 2025, Kia will launch 16 vehicles with advanced propulsion systems, including five new hybrids, five plug-in hybrids, five battery-powered electric vehicles and, by 2020, a new electric fuel cell.

Kia has sold more than 131,000 Sportage units to European customers in 2017, representing a quarter of the brand's total sales in this market. During 2017, Kia has sold a Sportage in the world every 69 seconds, which implies that it is the best-selling model of the brand worldwide. In March 2018, the Sportage 5 million unit was manufactured in the three months after the 25th anniversary of the launch in 1993. The Sportage is manufactured for Europe at the Kia plant in Žilina, Slovakia.
