MP43 with 30 degree (Vorsatz J, Gebogener Lauf) deflector unit, C.G. Haenel factory in Suhl, Germany (1945)

The relatively short bullet (7.92 x 33mm cartridge) fired by the MP43/44 made it particularly suitable for use with the device.

Aiming proved problematic until the appearance, in December 1944, of the prismatic sight developed by Zeiss.

Trials of this weapon system were still in progress even as Germany collapsed in the spring of 1945.

This footage shows the infantry version of the device (Vorsatz J), which deflects the flight of the bullet through 30 degrees.

The tank version (Vorsatz Pz) deflected the bullet through 90 degrees, although bullets fired through it generally fragmented due to the stresses involved.
