The fast-moving Delta fire continued to burn on September 6, forcing evacuations and shutting down a main highway as firefighters fought to contain the blaze.

According to local media, the fire was reported just before 1 pm on September 5. Burning dangerously close to Interstate 5, several drivers were asked to leave their vehicles as the fire spread, with a few charred by the flames that encroached.

The Delta Fire consisted of three blazes and burned 15,294 acres near Interstate 5 by the Vollmers Exit just north of Lakehead, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

Officials said human activity is involved in the starting of the fire, but no further information is available.
