MotoGP Gran Premio of Australia 2018

The third round of Asian-oceanic poker is the Australian GP scheduled from 26 to 28 October in Phillip Island (Australia) and is valid as the 17th round of the MotoGP World Championship. Inaugurated in December 1956, the track hosts the 500-MotoGP since 1989 and the Superbike World Championship since 1990.

Located on the island of the same name 140 km from Melbourne, it is the closest circuit to the South Pole of the entire championship. In the last three editions, its 38 degrees of latitude have translated into rather harsh temperatures: in 2016 during the race the air temperature reached a maximum of 13 degrees and last year did not exceed 16 degrees.

In order to keep the initial temperature of the brakes adequate, MotoGPs often use carbon covers, the same ones used in other circuits in case of rain. In the event of rainfall the pilots could instead use steel discs but at Motegi, last year the first 9 at the finish showed that it is possible to run with rain even with Brembo carbon discs without suffering but rather taking great benefits.

According to Brembo engineers who assist 100 percent of the 2018 MotoGP riders, the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit falls into the category of poorly demanding brake circuits. On a scale of 1 to 5, a difficulty index of 1 was deserved, a value not recorded by any of the other 18 tracks. The same score also obtained for Superbike.
