A flat tire and a travel delay led a New York couple to a $50,000 lottery win. Richard and Randi Laufer were driving from Washington, D.C. to Long Island in October and decided to pick up Powerball tickets in as many states as they could along the way. The tire trouble resulted in the couple making an unexpected stop at a Maryland House Travel Plaza in Aberdeen. It was there that they bought the ticket that would end up being a winner. Richard told the Maryland Lottery that, after the trip, he went on with "life as normal" and it wasn't until January 2 that he found the ticket in his wallet, checked it, and learned he was $50,000 richer. The couple plans to donate some of the money to charities, including the ALS Association. They will also be taking a vacation.
