Waste disposal problem in Bangalore escalates

The city is sitting on the edge of another garbage crisis, as BBMP's agreement with Mandur villagers on dumping waste there is coming to an end on June 1. While the villagers have threatened to block throwing of garbage in the landfill, the civic agency is struggling to find either an alternative space or to set up a solid waste management plant.

Last year, a full-scale garbage crisis hit in the city and made international headlines. BBMP then swung into action and made a string of promises to Mandur residents to resume dumping there.
