Furore in Rajya Sabha over Judicial appointment bill

The Judicial Appointments Commission Bill 2014, which seeks to change the way judges are appointed in India, was moved in Rajya Sabha on Thursday, the last day of the current Parliament session, and a day after it passed the Lok Sabha test.
Moving the Bill, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said the amendments will ensure transparency in appointments of judges. "The effort now is that we restore the spirit of original Constitution," he said.
The Bill seeks to scrap the collegium system of appointing judges and in its place set up a commission for the same.
