WFP says additional US$ 20 mil. needed to maintain current food assistance to N. Korea

The World Food Programme says an additional 20 million U.S. dollars are needed until November to maintain its current food support to North Korea.
The WFP currently secured a little under 30 million dollars worth of funding until May,... just over half the total requirement for this year.
It includes... not only the cost of food,... but also shipping and other expenditures.
According to their latest report the organization helped 6-hundred-11-thousand North Koreans last month, providing 16-hundred metric tons of fortified food,... and about a thousand metric tons of maize.
However, heavy sanctions had unintended consequences of delaying transportation,... among other side effects.
The WFP announced that over 10 million people in the regime,... or about 40 percent of the population... are suffering from food shortages.
