China demands US ‘immediately withdraw’ arms sale to Taiwan

China urged the US to halt a US$2.2 billion arms sale to Taiwan, saying it would “harm China’s sovereignty and security interests” and that the United States should respect the “one-China principle”. Washington authorised a potential sale of equipment to Taipei on July 8, 2019. It would be  the biggest US-Taiwan arms sale since Donald Trump became US president. (Photo: AFP)
