Venezuela continues to support the initiative by the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) to demand reparations from European countries for their role in colonial slavery. In May of this year, delegates from around the world, gathered in Caracas for international meeting on slavery reparations, in an effort to strengthen the global reparations campaign. Caricom's proposal has been strongly backed by the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and coincides with reparations hearings in the U.S. The aim is to find a common strategy that would translate into concrete action.
