Lawyer: No ban order from police on Zakir Naik, merely advised

Zakir Naik's lawyer Akberdin Abdul Kader has reiterated that the police did not issue any order banning the preacher's public speeches, since the preacher received nothing in writing stating as such.

"There was no ban order or anything like that imposed on him. He was merely advised not to give any talk for the time being, until the police complete the investigation.

"It is not an order, nothing in writing was given to him, no instruction was given to his lawyers to inform him," he said, adding that Zakir will "definitely" obey the advice of the police.

On Tuesday, however, Bukit Aman corporate communications head Asmawati Ahmad said an order was issued to ban Zakir's public talks nationwide.
