MANILA – At least four people were killed after a landslide hit a village in Subic, Zambales on Monday morning, Mayor Jay Khonghun said. In an interview on ANC, Khonghun said four people were killed after several houses were buried under the rubble in Barangay Wawandue. A landslide also occurred in Barangay San Isidro. Khonghun said heavy flooding was also reported in Barangays San Isidro and Naugsol and most of the major roads in the town are now impassable. The mayor is asking the help of the government as residents are expected to converge in evacuation centers. He said the town council is expected to place Subic under state of calamity soon. PAGASA forecaster Meno Mendoza said the moderate to heavy rains being experienced over parts of Luzon since Sunday are due to the southwest monsoon enhanced by tropical storm Pabuk located outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR). Mendoza said Pabuk may enter PAR but is not expected to hit land. PAGASA said the southwest monsoon is expected to bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms over Metro Manila, Central Luzon and Calabarzon. Mimaropa and Bicol region are forecast to have cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms. Northern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rains or thunderstorms.
