NSC agrees to begin transforming DMZ into global peace zone with realizable steps

South Korea's National Security Council has agreed to take a phased approach to transforming the DMZ into a global peace zone a vision laid out by President Moon in his UN General Assembly speech last month.
At a meeting Friday of the NSC's standing committee, led by National Security Advisor Chung Eui-yong,... they agreed to begin with practical steps that can be carried out in the early stages.
Members also reviewed the progress so far in negotiations with Washington about how much Korea will pay for the U.S. troops stationed in Korea,... with the two sides reportedly set to hold talks in Hawaii next week.
The NSC will also continue to work closely with the U.S. and the international community for the early resumption of talks between North Korea and the U.S. to achieve denuclearization.
