Police dispersed a protest by around 30 students in front of the gates of Universiti Malaya this afternoon. The protest was held to show solidarity with UM vice-chancellor Abdul Rahim Hashim.

The rally which started at about 2pm was organised in response to the action of a UM graduate, Wong Yan Ke, who staged a protest against Abdul Rahim during the UM convocation ceremony earlier this month.

A female student association leader was detained and the authorities also seized a portable audio system that was used by the speakers to deliver speeches during the rally.
