In Order To Write Well Compelling Characters, I Need To Embrace My Past

Following on from 'Dream House Of Ill Repute' I wanted to explore Jessica's character. Flesh out her language and feel. Eventually I will return to that chapter and do so, but first I need to learn more about her.

So today I started her back story. She had a traumatic Catholic schooling, one that was rife with abuse and other issues. The stories that I have happen to her are all true, in the sense that they are all events have occurred in catholic education to people who I personally know.

All of these events will shape her.

On a personal note, I have realised that I will need to lean into my writing. To dial my own feelings up to 10. I haven't faced the abuses that Jessica has, but I have to a small degree. Thus if I turn up the anger and confusion and shame that I felt, perhaps I will be able to come close to her feelings.

We will see. My writing is growing dark, but for this story, I am just going to run with it. Hopefully I can finish this chapter next week.
