Driver jailed for life for killing Tareque Masud, Mishuk Munier

A Manikganj court on Wednesday sentenced a bus driver to life in jail, five and a half years after death of noted filmmaker Tareque Masud and journalist Mishuk Munier in a deadly road crash.

Three others were also killed in the accident in Manikganj on the Dhaka-Aricha highway that called for strong measures to prevent road crashes.

Zamir Hossain, the driver of the bus that hit the micro-bus carrying Masud and Munier, was also fined Tk 5,000. In default, he will have to spend three more months in jail.

Under another section of the relevant law, the court awarded him two years of imprisonment and fined Tk 2,000, in default a month in jail.

The additional district and session's judge of Manikganj Al-Mahmud Faijul Kabir handed down the verdict.

Noted filmmaker Tareque Masud, media personality Mishuk Munier and three other people were killed in road crash on the Dhaka-Aricha highway in Manikganj on 13 August 2011.
