The special representative for the Korean Peninsula peace and security affairs is on his way back to Korea after visiting the U.S.
He is known to have met his American counterpart to discuss the recent North Korean threats.
Kim Sungmin reports. It was after the North's latest provocations that the special representative for Korean Peninsula peace and security affairs, Lee Do-hoon, visited the U.S.
After discussing the issue with his U.S. counterpart Stephen Biegun, he is now returning to South Korea.
About the meeting held in the U.S., he gave a short reply.
However, he did not elaborate on his answer when asked about the details of the meeting... such as on South Korea-U.S. joint military exercises.
"(The U.S. has reportedly suggested resuming the joint military exercise. Did you also discuss that?) (Please give us some details about the meeting) (Did you meet many officials?)
Sorry."
The focus on the two countries' military exercises comes after the former commander of the U.S. Forces Korea, and the National Security Advisor strongly urged that pressure be ramped up on North Korea.
A senior Pentagon official has also said that the issue of North Korea's threats is currently on the discussion table of the two countries.
With tension escalating between the South and North Korea, attention is on possible prevention measures as well as cooperation between South Korea and the U.S.
