Somebody Donated a 33-Year-Old Can of Anchovies to a Food Bank

One man's trash can be another man's treasure—but that phrase doesn't always hold true.Especially not when we're talking about 33-year-old canned fish. The Norwich Foodbank in Norfolk, England, posted some photos of a box of anchovies with a shocking expiration date. The fish were packaged and sold by the popular U.K. grocery chain Sainsbury's with a "best before" of April 1987.The can still had the original price tag: 49p or about 60 cents at the modern exchange rate. The food bank does keep an eye on the expiration dates on all the food that comes through their doors. But they also ask those who donate to check the dates before they hand the food over.Sainsbury's has asked for the can for its archive—because, yes, one food bank's trash is a grocery chain's treasure
