Yankees Donate $50,000 in COVID-19 Relief to Local Businesses

The New York Yankees are providing financial aid to businesses located near their stadium.
They have committed to
10 awards worth $5,000 each.
The team said a “majority” of the money would go toward
“local restaurants and food providers” because
food was the “greatest immediate need among residents.”
"The Yankees recognize the dire economic consequences wrought by COVID-19 in the vibrant neighborhood surrounding Yankee Stadium, and we are excited to move forward on this initiative." The New York Yankees, via Yes Network.
In addition to the financial awards, the Yankees
donated $200,000 worth of food vouchers to
help families prepare their holiday meals.
They also directly donated
68,000 pounds of food to those in need and
thousands of holiday gifts to children.
The team’s help comes as
businesses around the Bronx continue
to suffer due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Fans were banned from MLB stadiums during the 2020 season, meaning business drastically dropped.
Joe Bastone, owner of the nearby Yankee Tavern, said that even with outdoor dining he was only doing five percent of usual business.
