On Sunday, January 23rd, thousands of protesters in Russia were arrested by police officials. The demonstrators were demanding the release of opposition leader Alexei Navalny, who was recently sentence to 30 days in prison for violating parole conditions. Navalny, a stauch critic of the Vladimir Putin administration, was receiving treatment in Berlin after being poisoned by a chemical warfare agent called Novichok.
