In a time when incidents of child kidnapping, theft and murder are surfacing at an alarming rate in Odisha, a 5-year-old boy, who was reportedly sold, has been rescued by the police in Midnapore district of West Bengal. The Rourkela Plant Site Police has arrested four accused in the case.

As per sources, three women were involved in the child theft and the victim was kidnapped on December 4 from the Rourkela Railway Station. This kid was then sold to a woman in Midnapore for Rs. 1 Lakh.

After rescuing the minor, Police have handed over the child to Disha, a child care agency as per the instructions of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC).

One of the prime accused in the case has been identified as Santoshi Nayak, who is also suspected of being involved in a child theft racket in Rourkela. Police have formed three teams to investigate the matter. A complaint regarding the missing child was filed on December 12.
