It is the most sacred month in Islam after Ramadan and marks the beginning of the lunar calendar which Islam follows. The word Muharram means ‘not permitted’ or ‘forbidden’ hence, Muslims are prohibited from taking part in activities like warfare and use it as a period of prayer and reflection. While the first day of Muharram is known as Al Hijri or Arabic New Year, the tenth day is celebrated as Ashura by Muslim community across the world.

मुहर्रम के महीने से इस्लामिक साल की शुरुआत होती है. 9 अगस्त की शाम चांद के बाद मुहर्रम माह की शुरूआत हो चुकी है और ये महीना 7 सितंबर तक चलेगा. इस महीने को शोक का महीना माना जाता है. इस महीने में ही इराक के कर्बला मैदान में यजीद के सैनिक और पैंगम्बर मोहम्मद साहब के नवासे हज़रत इमाम हुसैन के बीच लड़ाई हुई थी. महीने के दसवें दिन इमाम हुसैन समेत उनके 72 साथी शहीद हो गए थे. हर साल मु​हर्रम के महीने के 10वें दिन रोज-ए-आशूरा होता है. इस दिन हजरत इमाम हुसैन सहित कर्बला के 72 शहीदों की शहादत को याद करते हुए मातम मनाया जाता है. इस बार मुहर्रम आशूरा 19 अगस्त गुरुवार को है. इस दिन शिया मुसलमान हुसैन की याद में मातम करते हैं और काले कपड़े पहनकर जुलूस निकालते हैं. इसके साथ ही इमाम हुसैन के इंसानियत के पैगाम को लोगों तक पहुंचाते हैं. हालांकि इस बार कोरोना के खतरे को देखते हुए यूपी, बिहार और झारखंड समेत तमाम राज्यों ने मुहर्रम को लेकर गाइडलाइन जारी कर दी हैं और ताजिया व अलम सार्वजनिक रूप से स्थापित करने की बजाय घरों में स्थापित करने के निर्देश दिए हैं. यहां जानिए मातम के इस पर्व से जुड़ी खास बातें.
