Following on from the previous game, Bayonetta, along with her former rival Jeanne, fight against various angels that appear across the land as part of their pact to Inferno. During one particular attack, Jeanne protects Bayonetta from a sudden demon summon gone wrong, causing her soul to be claimed by the depths of Hell. Bayonetta's search to rescue Jeanne's soul leads her to the sacred mountain of Fimbulvinter that links Inferno and Paradiso together.
