Walmart recently announced the increase in pay for its 12,000 long-haul truck drivers.
The company will also offer incentives for other transportation employees.
Such employees are currently
considered in-demand, as supply
chain woes continue to affect
the availability of merchandise.

The previous starting salary for a qualified Walmart truck driver was $87,500.
The company has long been a leader in compensation for transportation employees.
The median pay for truck drivers in the U.S. is less than $50,000.
Walmart's industry-leading
pay is expected to increase
the competitiveness of the
company as compared to Amazon.
Amazon has built a solid network of contracted truck drivers over the past decade.
Walmart's own workforce of drivers increased by 4,500 in 2021.
Drivers were incentivized by training that is covered by Walmart and signing bonuses in excess of $10,000.
The company hopes to sign on anywhere between 400 and 800 drivers this year.
It currently employs close to 12,000 drivers.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are close to two million drivers on the road.
