France Bans English Gaming Terms , Like ‘Esports’ and ‘Streaming’ , To Preserve Language Purity.

The culture ministry has long maintained that gaming industry jargon could act as “a barrier to understanding” for those who don't play games.
'The Guardian' reports that the changes, which were issued on May 30 in the official journal,
are binding on government workers.
Here are some of the new
French alternative terms to be used:.
"pro-gamer" is now "joueur professionnel,
"streamer" is "joueur-animateur en direct,".
"cloud gaming" is "jeu video en nuage," and "esports" is now "jeu video de competition.".
According to the ministry, video game websites and magazines were scoured to see if
French terms were already in existence.
