Rajya Sabha Elections 2022: Congress breaks Chintan Shivir resolution, Muslim-Free BJP | Third Eye

In this episode of Third Eye, Senior Journalist and Founder The Public India, Anand Vardhan Singh talks about the upcoming Rajya Sabha Elections 2022 for which the candidates have been finalized and nomination process is going on.
Nirmala Sitharaman is the BJP candidate from Karnataka and Piyush Goyal is up for reelection from Maharashtra. Union Minority Affairs Minister, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, who is in Rajya Sabha as a representative of Jharkhand, is not on this list. Former Union Minister Prakash Javadekar has also been dropped. Veterans like OP Mathur, BJP general secretary Dushyant Gautam, and Vinay Sahastrabuddhe have not been repeated. The BJP's chief whip in Rajya Sabha and former Union Minister Shiv Pratap Shukla is also excluded. Sanjay Seth, who switched to the Samajwadi Party before the UP election, and BJP national spokesperson Syed Zafar Islam have been dropped. Eight candidates have been named from Uttar Pradesh- Laxmikant Bajpai, Radha Mohan Agarwal, Surendra Nagar, Baburam Nishad, Darshana Singh, Sangeeta Yadav, Mithilesh Kumar, and Dr. K. Laxman.
From the Congress side, Rajeev Shukla, Ajay Maken, and Jairam Ramesh have been named from Chhattisgarh, Haryana, and Karnataka in the list of 10 candidates from seven states for the Rajya Sabha polls on June 10. P Chidambaram, who is in Rajya Sabha, has once again been named from Tamil Nadu and Ranjeet Ranjan has been fielded from Chhattisgarh. Vivek Tankha is the Congress candidate from Madhya Pradesh. But Uttar Pradesh, a state with just two Congress MLAs, has three party representatives, the dissenters point out; two are from the same district- Pramod Tiwari and Imran Pratapgarhi. Imran Pratapgarhi, the Congress minority department chairperson and a poet, has been fielded from Maharashtra. Randeep Singh Surjewala, Mukul Wasnik, and Pramod Tiwari are candidates representing Rajasthan though none belong to the state.
