California Governor Gavin Newsom signed a bill into law on Thursday that puts strict requirements on websites likely to be accessed by kids. The law establishes restrictions on how companies are able to collect and use personal data and new requirements in their approach to children. The law prohibits the tracking of children's geolocation and requires websites to default to the most privacy-protective settings available for children. It bans the use of dark patterns that use design techniques to trick kids into providing personal information or taking aggressive action in California to protect the health and well-being of our kids Newsom said in a statement
