Electronic Arts seems to have decided not to produce any more new games for the Project CARS and DIRT licences. More news about Project Cars: https://www.hiijo.com/en/project-cars

GamesIndustry has obtained internal email exchanges that confirm this.
The publisher wants to "end development and investment" in the franchise. Acquired by Codemaster in 2019, Slightly Mad Studios had 150 people on staff at that time. Last August, the first two episodes of the franchise had already been withdrawn from the sale of dematerialized stores. A decision that resulted from an estimation of the franchise's potential that was too low compared to Electronic Arts' catalogue.

"Today we announced internally an update to our racing portfolio. Following an evaluation of the next Project CARS title and its longer-term growth potential, we have made the decision to stop further development and investment for the franchise."

The third opus had indeed received a very mixed reception at its release in September 2020. The founder and former CEO of the studio, Ian Bell, was very critical of the news. He left earlier in October and has long been on bad terms with Electronic Arts.
In addition, the decision also concerns the DIRT series, which had its last opus the same year. Codemasters and its studios will now focus on F1 2022 and GRID.
