Irene Rager in "Vals" from "Jazz Band" by Penella

Manuel Penella Moreno (1880-1939) was a prolific composer of stage works (operas, zarzuelas, revues) and songs. His best-known works are the operas "El gato montés" and "Don Gil de Alcalá". This, however is, by special request, a second selection from "Jazz Band", a revue composed in 1933, logically written for dance band instead of a symphonic orchestra. Again it was practically impossible to find pictures ilustrating this great music, but I trust the sound recordings, made for Odeon the same year as the premiere are largely interesting enough to speak for themselves. In this video I included a photograph of the composer. The recording features the Orquesta Pascual Godés. Besides a conductor and bandleader, Pasqual Godés i Terrats was a composer of musical comedies, revues, film scores, songs and instrumental pieces. About the singer, I sadly couldn't find any information. This great record was made in 1933.
