European Commission Launches Antitrust Probe into Microsoft's Teams
  • 9 months ago
The European Commission has initiated a formal antitrust investigation into Microsoft's bundling its Teams software with its Office productivity suite. The investigation comes in response to a complaint filed by Slack in July 2020, alleging anti-competitive behavior by Microsoft. The Commission will examine whether Microsoft's bundling of Teams with its Office 365 and Microsoft 365 suites violates EU competition rules, potentially restricting competition in the market for remote communication and collaboration tools. Slack's original complaint accused Microsoft of illegally tying Microsoft Teams to Office, making it difficult for users to remove Teams and hiding the true cost for enterprise customers. Microsoft has responded to the complaint, expressing its commitment to cooperate with the Commission and find solutions to address their concerns.
