Tommy Lucchese was an Italian-American mobster who rose to power as the head of the Lucchese crime family, one of the "Five Families" that controlled organized crime in New York City. He was a key ally of Carlo Gambino and assisted him in consolidating power within the Gambino crime family and in becoming the head of the Commission, the governing body that oversaw organized crime in the United States.
