This Nataraja statue installed in Bharat Mandapam is said to be the tallest Nataraja statue in the world. It is 28 feet high, weighs 18 tonnes and is made of Ashtadhatu. Ashtadhatu consists of gold-silver, ranga, copper, brass, zinc, iron and bronze. Every metal has its own different properties. Ashtadhatu is considered very important in astrology. According to astrology, due to the combination of Ashtadhatu, any idol transmits positive energy around its center. Calms the mind and enhances decision making ability. This is the reason why idols of Ashtadhatu were installed in the ancient temples of the country.
