The United States Navy has sent an additional aircraft carrier strike group to the eastern Mediterranean in order to act as a deterrence and prevent the escalation of the Israel-Hamas war into a broader regional confrontation.

The inclusion of the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group in conjunction with the already sent USS Gerald R. Ford group results in a cumulative count of 10 American warships that have been allocated. Approximately 12,000 military soldiers have been deployed or are now on way to the maritime region next to Israel, signifying a rapid escalation in the United States' military deployment in the area.

Over the weekend, the United States Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, said that he has issued instructions for the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower and its accompanying fleet of three escort ships to start their relocation towards the eastern Mediterranean region. The group comprises a total of nine aircraft squadrons and is an integral component of a strategic initiative aimed at deterring hostile acts directed at Israel, as well as any attempts to escalate the ongoing conflict subsequent to Hamas's assault on Israel.

In accordance with a directive issued by Austin on October 8th, the day subsequent to the Hamas assault, an order was issued to deploy the USS Gerald R. Ford, the United States Navy's latest and most technologically sophisticated aircraft carrier, along with five accompanying escort vessels, to the specified zone.

The primary purpose of the U.S. warships deployed in the vicinity is to demonstrate military capabilities rather than actively engage in combat operations in Gaza or participate in Israeli military endeavors.

Jake Sullivan, the national security advisor to President Joe Biden, said on CBS's "Face the Nation" on Sunday that it is not possible to exclude the possibility that Iran may choose for direct involvement in some kind. It is imperative that we make adequate preparations for all potential contingencies. One of the driving factors behind the president's decision to relocate these resources is to effectively communicate a message of deterrence, emphasizing the need to prevent any further escalation of the conflict.
