Corrie Sanders vs Keith Fletcher in a ten round heavyweight bout

Date: January 26, 1996

Venue: Hilton Metropole Hotel, Brighton

Sandeers stance: southpaw

Fletcher stance: orthodox

Corrie Sanders turned pro in 1989, and most of his early bouts were in his native South Africa. He won his first 23 fights, with his most notable results being a first round KO of Johnny DuPlooy, a points win over Johnny Nelson and a third round stoppage of Bert Cooper. Sanders came unstuck against fringe contender Nate Tubbs, who knocked him out in the second round. Sanders responded by winning his next four bouts, including a first round stoppage of former cruiserweight champion Carlos de Leon.

Keith Fletcher lost his pro debut to fellow debutant Darren Fearn in 1994. He won his next six bouts. His most impressive win in that streak was a points win over Dermot Gascoyne, who was 6-0 at the time. Fletcher then challenged Julius Francis for the Southern Area belt, losing on points. In his next two fights, Fletcher beat John Williams and former European champion Derek Williams, both inside the distance.
