Queen marks Canadian Navy centenary

The Queen will celebrate the centenary of the Canadian Navy as dozens of foreign ships gather to mark the milestone.

The monarch and the Duke of Edinburgh begin the first full day of their tour of Canada by honouring the maritime achievements of the Commonwealth country.

She has visited Canada 22 times on official duties. Her last visit was in 2005.

The appearance marks the start of the Queen and Prince Philip's nine-day tour.

On Canada Day, she will be on Parliament Hill in Ottawa for celebrations of the country's 143rd birthday.

The couple also plan to go to Winnipeg and Waterloo and Ontario.
