Bosnia hit by worst floods in a century

Bosnia and Herzegovina has been hit with the worst flooding the country has seen in a century.

Four days of heavy rain has caused the River Drina to burst it's banks in the north east of the country.

The overflowing River, which separates Bosnia from Serbia and Montenegro, forced authorities to declare a state of emergency and evacuate thousands of people in all three countries.

More than 2,000 thousand people were evacuated from their homes in the Bosnian town of Bijeljina where the Drina meets the River Sava.

Bosnian army, police and volunteers used boats to deliver food and drinking water to suburbs cut off from electricity, drinking water and phone lines.

Schools were closed, power and heating were lost and water supplies contaminated along the river in all three countries.
